Basic Care
Rooting a Disocactus macranthus (Golden Orchid Cactus) is relatively easy and similar to other epiphytic cacti. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help root your plant cuttings successfully:
Prepare the Pot and Soil
Use a small pot with drainage holes and fill it with a well-draining mix—such as cactus soil mixed with perlite or orchid bark.
Apply Rooting Hormone (Optional)
Dip the calloused end into rooting hormone powder to help encourage root growth.
Plant the Cutting
Insert the cutting about 1-2 inches deep into the soil. Press the soil gently around it to hold it in place.
Provide Indirect Light and Humidity
Place the pot in bright, indirect light—avoid direct sun. Mist lightly every few days to keep humidity up, but don’t soak the soil.
Be Patient
Roots typically develop in 3–6 weeks. Check by gently tugging—if there’s resistance, roots have formed.
After Rooting
Once established, water when the top inch of soil is dry and gradually introduce more light. Avoid overwatering—these are epiphytic cacti that prefer light moisture.
Enjoy!
